There's a particular kind of light that only happens under redwoods, dappled, soft, a little golden even at midday, and the Pereira family's afternoon at Roberts Regional had it in every frame. We wandered the trails while their daughter led the way, and her dad tossed her up into the air right where the light broke through the canopy, one of my favorite kinds of shots to catch.

The rest of the session was just as easy: quiet moments between mom and daughter, foreheads together and laughing about something only the two of them knew, the whole family walking hand in hand while she swung between them. Nobody was posing for long, we mostly just let the redwoods and the afternoon do the work.
